The
idyllic highlands of southern India, where
the soil is fertile and the climate is wholesome
with a milieu of cloudy skies, make it conducive
for the growth of coffee rich in aroma.
Tata Coffee owns 19 coffee
estates in Coorg, Chikmagalur, Hassan districts
of Karnataka and Coimbatore in the district
of Tamil Nadu. Tata Coffee also has seven
tea estates, four of which are in Tamil
Nadu, two in Karnataka and one can be found
in the state of Kerala.
These plantations are
spread over 12800 hectares and produce 10000
mt of green coffee, 6500 mt of tea and 1000
mt of pepper.
A lot goes into the choice
of the area of planting such as altitude
and rainfall. Areas with soil rich in humus
and gentle slopes providing good drainage
are selected. Fertile Lands are prepared
for planting seedlings nurtured at the in-house
nurseries. Agro-chemicals are scrutinised
in-house at the research and development
laboratory. Indigenous methods are employed
to avoid the use of pesticides. Coffee pulp
and cherry husk are used as compost which
helps conserve soil fertility. All this
leads to Tata Coffees ability to produce
large quantities of Estate Specific, Strain
Specific, Specialty and Premium Coffees
while preserving quality consistently.

their own curing works facility at Kushalnagar,
